Controversy marred the popular South
West Champs Hare and Hounds at Nancemellion on Bank Holiday Sunday after a
small
group
of riders halted the race 35 minutes into the three-hour Hare and Hounds,
claiming the course was unrideable.
Jack Twentyman who finished 5th in
the Championship class.
After some lively discussion between
organisers and competitors, the course was quickly re-designed with ‘offending’
areas cut out, and although a small number of the 115 starters, who were quite
happy with the original course and refused to race on the revised, shortened
circuit, proceedings eventually got underway again after a 45-minute delay.
Local Championship class favourite
Jason Fraser didn’t let the hold-up affect his day, trading dirt in a lively
encounter with Gareth Andrew until technical problems sidelined Gareth after
an hour. Jason went on to take top spot with 12 laps completed..
The
Dustow brothers, Chris & Steve, finished 3rd and 4th respectively with 11
laps each, adding to the 2nd & 3rd they took last week at the Xmoor Enduro
in Monksilver. This week they were narrowly edged out by Richard Penhaligon
who took second place, a minute up.
Chris Dustow 3rd place in Champ class.
The Expert class was won by Pete
Bulley, another Cornishman taking top honours last week in Monksilver. Pete
finished with 11 laps, ahead of Carl McIlroy on 10 laps, with Larry Kessell on
10 a minute behind in third.
Steven Jewell claimed the top spot in
the Clubman up to 250cc class, completing 10 laps and finishing four minutes
ahead of Wayne Davey. Tim Cotton took 3rd place completing 9 laps.
